Floating and Filing of Teeth
This procedure is one of the most commonly known equine dentistry procedures. Despite being known to so many, it is a complex series of considerations that must be taken into account to maintain and promote movement of the mandible to relive pain, increase tooth life, enhance performance and improve overall balance and condition. The following are the eight goals of equilibration, prophylaxis and continuing maintenance:
- Equal clinical crown height
- Correct molar table angles for each individual
- Correct incisor table angles for each individual
- Three point balance of the TMJ, check teeth and incisors
- Full lateral excursion of the mandible
- Maximum occlusion of the available incisors and check teeth
- Maintain maximum anterior-posterior movement of the mandible
- Overall comfort during all activities
